Moana Sands Lagoon Resort in the evening

Moana Sands Group

Technology infrastructure that evolved with the business.

CZECHMATE has supported Moana Sands for many years. When the Moana Sands Lagoon Resort development began around 2018, the project became a major expansion of that existing relationship. Since then, the technology environment has continued to evolve as the group has grown and its operational and guest requirements have changed.

Foundation

Fibre, shared systems and ongoing management

A managed environment across hospitality properties.

Moana Sands Lagoon Resort, Moana Sands Beachfront Hotel and Moana Sands Beachfront Villas share business systems, connectivity and management while retaining their own logical networks. The wider environment also includes surveillance at Are Tuanga.

  • Fibre and Optical LAN infrastructure
  • Shared business systems
  • Multi-site backup and disaster recovery
  • Monitoring, maintenance and user support

The environment changed as the requirement changed.

  1. 01

    Existing relationship

CZECHMATE was already providing ongoing technology support to Moana Sands before the Lagoon Resort development.

  2. 02

Around 2018 - Lagoon Resort development

Early involvement included temporary CCTV for construction monitoring, structured cabling design, network architecture, Wi-Fi, wired infrastructure, CCTV and business systems.

  3. 03

    Multi-property integration

As the group expanded, the three hospitality properties required shared access to central systems while remaining logically separated.

  4. 04

    Business continuity

Local backup, off-site replication, monitoring and disaster-recovery capability were introduced.

  5. 05

    Guest experience

Guest requirements evolved to include stronger room isolation and private access to in-room entertainment and casting services.

  6. 06

    Infrastructure upgrades

Later Hotel and Villas upgrades introduced extensive fibre distribution and point-to-point Optical LAN.

  7. 07

    Ongoing evolution

The environment continues to be actively managed and progressively modernised, including movement of suitable systems toward cloud services.

Connected where it matters. Separated where it should be.

As the group expanded, shared business systems needed to remain accessible across multiple properties. A carrier-provided MPLS service was the practical and cost-effective option available at the time, avoiding substantial civil works for private fibre between properties.

Shared systems without treating every property as one flat network.

The environment was designed around separate networks for business services, servers, voice, surveillance, management and guest services.

Central business systems and shared data are hosted at the primary property and made securely available across the connected sites.

Room-side network equipment at a Moana Sands property

Private room networks without isolating guests from their own devices.

Room networking was redesigned so each guest room operates within its own isolated network. Guests can discover and cast to devices assigned to their room without being able to discover devices in neighbouring rooms.

Separate internet connectivity was introduced for guest services so high-volume traffic does not unnecessarily consume limited inter-site business connectivity. Different device types can be routed through different internet paths where required.

Fibre taken closer to the guest environment.

CZECHMATE introduced a point-to-point Optical LAN design to deliver fibre directly toward individual guest rooms. The approach was first implemented at Moana Sands Beachfront Villas and later extended on a larger scale during the Moana Sands Beachfront Hotel upgrade.

Each room receives two fibre cores. Bi-directional optics operate the active Ethernet connection over a single strand, leaving the second strand available as spare capacity.

Fibre from the rooms is consolidated through splice and distribution infrastructure back to aggregation switching in the main communications area. This reduces copper cabling, avoids distance limitations, reduces pathway requirements and leaves additional fibre capacity for future changes.

Testing is part of the installation, not an optional final step.

Even with experienced installers, faults can occur. A termination can be incorrect, a component can be defective, or an installed link may simply not perform as expected.

CZECHMATE tests copper and fibre infrastructure using equipment appropriate to the installation so problems can be identified, corrected and retested before handover. The results also provide a documented record of the completed work.

As one recent example, the final verification report for the Moana Sands Beachfront Hotel upgrade recorded 29 tested copper links, all passing with no failures or warnings.

Use the solution appropriate to the site and requirement.

At the Lagoon Resort, staff and laundry facilities are located across a public road from the main property. Running new physical cabling across the road would have required unnecessary civil works and cost, so CZECHMATE connected the facilities using a dedicated point-to-point wireless bridge.

Recovery capability beyond one property.

Primary business services operate from the main property. Backups are maintained locally and replicated to another Moana Sands property to provide an off-site recovery copy. CZECHMATE monitors the backup environment and performs ongoing maintenance as part of the wider managed-service relationship.

Surveillance across four properties.

Security and surveillance services for the group are delivered through Allied Pacific Security (APS), working as part of the wider CZECHMATE-managed environment.

The Wisenet WAVE surveillance environment spans Moana Sands Lagoon Resort, Moana Sands Beachfront Hotel, Moana Sands Beachfront Villas and Are Tuanga. It includes 50+ cameras and continues to grow across three VMS recording servers. Shared recording infrastructure is used where the available connectivity and camera load make it practical.

Built, supported and continuously improved.

For Moana Sands, the relationship extends well beyond project delivery. CZECHMATE provides ongoing management and support across the group's technology environment.

Systems are monitored and maintained proactively so potential issues can be identified and addressed before they become operational failures where possible.

The architecture continues to evolve.

The MPLS architecture was the right solution for the requirement and available infrastructure at the time. As more business services move into the cloud, CZECHMATE continues to review the role of private inter-site infrastructure.

The longer-term direction is toward cloud-based services, modern identity and secure internet-based connectivity where these provide a better operational and commercial outcome.

Technology that changed as the business changed.

The environment has evolved from the requirements of a new resort development into a managed multi-property technology environment supporting business systems, guest services, communications, security and continuity.
