Motu Beachfront Art Villas
Modernising a boutique resort from local infrastructure to GPON and cloud services.
CZECHMATE has supported the property since around 2015. Over that time, the environment has evolved from traditional on-site infrastructure into a fibre-connected property with GPON guest connectivity and cloud-managed business systems.
Better guest connectivity. Simpler business systems.
The project addressed two evolving requirements: reliable connectivity into every villa, and business systems that could be securely accessed and managed without requiring an on-site server.
Fibre and GPON were used to deliver practical connectivity through a distributed resort, while a later Microsoft cloud migration removed the need to maintain an ageing local server platform. The result was selected around the property's actual routes, scale and operating requirements.
Legacy connectivity to fibre and GPON.
- Legacy room connectivity
- Copper considered
- Distance constraint identified
- Single-mode fibre selected
- GPON commissioned

- Local server and Active Directory
- Microsoft cloud migration
- Entra ID, Intune and SharePoint
- Cloud-hosted business systems
- Server decommissioned
Fibre became the better medium once route lengths were clear.
Site works in 2021 created an opportunity to install permanent fibre infrastructure while trenches were open. Conventional Cat 6A structured cabling was considered first, but some routes would have exceeded practical copper Ethernet distances.
The requirement was reliable connectivity into every villa. Once the route lengths made conventional copper inappropriate, fibre became the logical medium and GPON provided a cost-effective distribution model for the property.

Fibre distributed directly toward each villa.
An OLT in the central communications cabinet connects through a 1:16 passive optical splitter to single-mode fibre runs across the property. Each villa and the pool bar receives a local ONT for guest connectivity and Wi-Fi.

Connectivity delivered locally.
Fibre is converted locally at each villa for guest network and Wi-Fi service. Guest devices are prevented from communicating directly with other guest devices, while office, management and CCTV services remain separated.
Primary and secondary internet connections provide automatic router-level failover.
Commissioning began by checking the fibre that was already there.
The blown fibre cable had been installed during earlier site works by another local telecommunications provider. CZECHMATE later reworked the passive optical splitter arrangement, connectorised and integrated the fibre paths into the GPON solution, then inspected and tested each link before commissioning.
The purpose of testing is to identify faults before the customer inherits them. Connector contamination, hardware defects and workmanship issues can occur in any installation, so inspection, remediation and documented retesting form part of the commissioning process.

OS2 single-mode fibre tested at 1310 nm and 1550 nm, with no warnings in the final report.Business services no longer depend on a local server.
By 2026, maintaining local server hardware, a local domain, file services and physical backup infrastructure was no longer the best operational or commercial outcome for a boutique property of this size.
The property-management system and accounting moved to cloud-hosted platforms. Shared company data moved to SharePoint, user business data moved to OneDrive for Business, and management and staff can securely access approved systems and information remotely.
CZECHMATE migrated the environment to Microsoft 365 Business Premium, including Entra ID, Intune, Conditional Access, MFA, Microsoft Defender, device compliance policies and third-party Microsoft 365 backup.
Active Directory, file shares, local backups and business applications.
Entra-managed identity, Intune-managed endpoints, cloud-hosted files and applications.
Less infrastructure to maintain. More flexibility to operate.
Staff continued working with minimal interruption while devices were moved from the local domain to Entra ID and Intune. Shared files moved to SharePoint, business data moved to OneDrive for Business, and accounting and property-management systems moved to cloud-hosted versions.
- Microsoft 365, identity and endpoint management
- User and device support
- GPON infrastructure, network and Wi-Fi
- Automatic internet failover and maintenance
- Backups, security controls and ongoing changes
Reliable guest connectivity. Simpler business technology.
Fibre now delivers reliable connectivity into the villas, while cloud services have removed the need to maintain a local server platform for a small hospitality property.
